rent board structure

On Tuesday May 18, 2010, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors placed a measure on the November 2010 ballot that will change the structure of the Rent Board and have severe consequences to our industry.
The Charter Amendment was placed on the ballot by 7 of the 11 district Supervisors, only Supervisors Alioto-Pier, Elsbernd, Chu, and Dufty did not sign onto it. The amendment changes the Rent Board from 5 commissioners appointed by the Mayor to 7 commissioners with 3 selected by the Mayor, 3 selected by the Board, 1 selected by the Mayor and Board President jointly.
Although this measure will need to go through the hearing process at City Hall, there is a very strong likelihood that we will see it placed on the November ballot. You may want to write to the supervisors who support this measure and express our concerns and opposition. Those supervisors are listed below.
