Homes Not Jails:
On Sunday April 4, 2010 a group of activists for Homes Not Jails entered a privately owned duplex. Minimal action was taken by police. SFAA has written SFPD Chief George Gascón to express concerns over the alleged actions of SF police officers in this matter. Here's a copy of our letter.
June 2010 election:
SFAA has prepared this voter guide with our recommendations for issues and candidates on the June 8 ballot. We hope you'll find this useful as you make your decisions.
Legislative Watch:
The Mayor’s Voluntary Soft Story Seismic Retrofit legislation was heard at the Board of Supervisors Land Use Committee on Monday, March 1, 2010.
Legislative Watch:
Chris Daly’s Renters Economic Relief legislation is back after being vetoed by the Mayor.
Legislative Watch:
Move-In legislation was passed by the Board of Supervisors January 26.
Legislative Watch:
On December 8, the Board of Supervisors voted 7-4 in favor of the Avalos Just Cause eviction legislation. Mayor Gavin Newsom has graciously agreed to veto this legislation, and we have enough votes to uphold the Mayor’s veto. This means that the law WILL NOT go into effect.
Get details here (and read Mayor Newsom's letter to the Board).
Legislative Watch:
The issue of mandatory acceptance of pets in rental housing was heard again by the Animal Control and Welfare Commission on Nov. 12. SFAA board member Andrew Long spoke against the proposal. Learn more and see a KGO-TV news story about the hearing featuring Andrew's comments.
Media:
KTVU channel 2 news reported Oct. 13 on "soft story" buildings that remain vulnerable to a big quake. Watch the story here.
